Kallers - A KDE System Tray Caller Id Applet -------------------------------------------- Version: 0.3.0 (May 4, 2003) Nadeem Hasan http://www.nadmm.com/kallers/ Requirements: ------------- o KDE 3.1.x and above o Analog dialup modem that supports caller id o Caller id service from your local phone provider How to Test a Modem for Caller Id Support: ------------------------------------------ First, please check if your modem is listed in the SUPPORTED_MODEMS file. If you don't see it listed, follow the instructions below to test. Please report if your modem is not listed and supports caller id. Include the following information when you report: Manufacturer, Model, ISA/PCI/PCMCIA, Command String For most modems, the command AT#CID=1 will enable caller id. If that doesn't work, look in the user's manual for your modem. Other common commands are: o AT#CLS=8#CID=1 o AT%CCID=1 o AT+VCID=1 o AT#CC1 o AT*ID1 To test your modem, use a terminal emulator program such as minicom, and do the following: 1. Setup the program to use the desired serial port. 2. Enter ATZ to reset the modem. Modem would respond with "OK". 3. Now enter each of the above command strings in order till you get "OK" from the modem. If one of these commands resulted in an "OK" from the modem, you are in luck :-) 4. If not, the modem does not support caller id. Compiling and Installing: ------------------------- Please refer to the INSTALL document for the instructions on how to compile and install kallers. Once installed, kallers would be available under the "Toys" submenu of the KMenu. Using Kallers Call Log File: ---------------------------- Kallers stores the call log in XML format in the file calllog.xml under $KDEHOME/share/apps/kallers directory. This log can be used externally for any purpose you see fit (such as producing a call report daily via a cron job).
